RoboHelp 8 - Mini TOC

The RoboHelp Tour now uses one of the  frameless skins introduced in RoboHelp 2019 New UI. The mini toc appears on the right. In Classic versions of RoboHelp, the mini toc will appear at the top of the topic as shown below.

The Mini TOC

On my web site you will see that many of my articles start with a What's Covered section, typically a short description of the contents followed by the headings within. That has required me to create a bookmark (anchor) for each heading and then create links to those bookmarks. Now RoboHelp gives you something very similar and with all the work done for you. From the Insert menu, you simply select the Mini TOC placeholder as shown below.

Note:
Make sure patch 8.0.1 is applied, otherwise the Mini TOC will not work in Firefox once the topic is on a server. See Item 12 in Using RoboHelp 8 on my website.
Also the Mini TOC does not survive the trip to printed documentation.

The Mini TOC Options dialog opens with the intuitive options.

In this example I positioned the Mini TOC directly in the topic. You can also position it within Master Pages.

• If you use the default caption or your own caption, then the Mini TOC will display that caption followed by Show / Hide. You can change Show / Hide to your preferred text in Project Settings. Look for Master Page in the LNG tab.
• If you leave the caption field blank, then nothing will be displayed and there will be no option to hide the Mini TOC.
• If you enter a space only in the caption field, then you can just get Show / Hide or your preferred text.

What you cannot do is have just a caption with no option to hide the Mini TOC. I tried leaving the text in the LNG file blank but it then defaults to Show / Hide anyway. As the Show / Hide for the Navigation Pane can be set to blank, I think this is a small bug.
